Training Module example: Cocaine on my brain

Title: Cocaine in my brain: signs, symptoms and interventions

Aim: To explore attitudes, increase knowledge and enhance skills in addressing cocaine use and related issues

Learning Outcomes:

  • Mind altering: exploring attitudes, increasing knowledge and imparting skills
  • To develop a greater understanding of cocaine use and users
  • To place cocaine and psychostimulant use in context of other substance use incl alcohol
  • Cocaine effects and consequences - from recreational to problematic consumption
  • Cocaine - who's doing it and where it's happening
  • Where to get support and advice
  • How best to engage with cocaine users
  • Early and brief interventions
  • Treatment and support options when things get messy

Participants: Specialist and non-specialist drug workers, youth & community workers, occupational health / HR managers, NHS, Criminal Justice, LA and Vol sector

Course Length: One full day

Ancillary: Resource packs for each participant to compliment days training with in-depth articles and research papers relating to the subjects covered. Also directions for further reading or information provision such as relevant web sites & agencies.

Maximum: 22 participants

Training commissioner to provide the following:

Training facilities: Able to hold training for 22 people and 2 trainers, need two rooms to be able to facilitate breakout and DVD screening (each room able to hold 22).

Equipment: At least one data projector and laptop.

Food for lunch: Water, tea and coffee for arrival, morning and afternoon breaks.

Administration: Organise applications for training and supply details of participants (sign in sheet, name badges) provide directions to participants for venue.
